Harrison Ford Is ‘Still Happy’ He Made ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ Despite It Flopping: ‘S— Happens’

Harrison Ford does not mind that the last Indiana Jones movie did not perform well at the box office.

Ford, 82, touched on 2023’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny in an interview with WSJ. Magazine published Wednesday, Feb. 5, while promoting his new Marvel movie Captain America: Brave New World.

“S— happens,” the actor said, when asked about the movie’s relatively poor performance financially compared to expectations for the beloved action series, which Ford originated with 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark. “I was really the one who felt there was another story to tell. When [Indy] had suffered the consequences of the life that he had to live, I wanted one more chance to pick him up and shake the dust off his ass and stick him out there, bereft of some of his vigor, to see what happened.”

“I’m still happy I made that movie,” Ford added.

Dial of Destiny saw Ford reprise his role as Indiana Jones for the final time and for the first time since 2008’s Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the series’ fourth film. The movie meets Jones on the eve of his retirement in 1969, where he and his goddaughter Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) are tasked with preventing former Nazi Dr. Jürgen Voller (Mads Mikkelsen) from obtaining the titular dial and traveling back in time to change the course of World War II in Germany’s favor.Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE’s free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

The movie made its buzzy world premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, where Ford was honored with a Palme d’Or for lifetime achievement in the film industry. “I wanted to see him rally for one last adventure,” he told PEOPLE in June 2023 of returning for a fifth Indiana Jones movie.

Over a year removed from Dial of Destiny‘s release, Ford remains busy with his roles on television series like Shrinking and the Yellowstone prequel 1923. He’s also going toe-to-toe with Anthony Mackie in the latest Captain America movie, in theaters Feb. 14, and as Ford told WSJ. Magazine, he doesn’t plan to stop there.

“My plan is to keep working behind that face till I don’t care what happens anymore. I’m selling that piece by piece while I’m alive,” he told the outlet, when asked whether he is concerned about how his likeness could be used down the road. “I’ve been compensated. You don’t need to worry about me.”
