Mackenzie Boyd is in serious trouble after tonight’s episode of Emmerdale, as John Sugden threatened him to let him die in the underground bunker.
After his great scape plan backfired, Mack tried a new approach, taunting John about the secrets in his marriage. Unfortunately, it didn’t have the results he was hoping for.
The episode started at the bunker, where Mack was not feeling too great. After determining his wounds are not septic, John administered the last of the antibiotics, and warned his prisoner that he couldn’t bring any more medicine.
“I can’t survive down here much longer”, Mack told him, with John reminding him that he “blew” his opportunity to leave the previous day.
Mack tried to offer some excuses, apologising for his actions, but John didn’t seem to trust him anymore. “I told you a lot of things. Things I should have kept to myself,” John said, implying that those secrets can’t leave the bunker.
At home, John found out that his husband Aaron was planning a surprise, and he wasn’t very happy about it. Aaron promised he would like it, but this mystery created an opening for Mack to play with John’s mind.
As Mack’s fever rose due to the infected wound, it became clear that John was planning on leaving his fate in the “lap of the gods”. He didn’t want anything to ruin his newly found domestic bliss, but Mack decided to burst the bubble.
“The man you love doesn’t love you,” he told his kidnapper, revealing that Aaron was sleeping with John’s brother, Robert.
John didn’t believe him, as he thought Mack was trying to save himself by spilling lies.
When John returned home, he tried to confront Aaron about what he was hiding without mentioning the alleged affair. His partner ended up revealing the surprise instead – he bought a hot tub for their house.
Despite Mack’s claims, Aaron reassured John that he wanted to be with him. In fact, he told John they were meeting Aaron’s mum for lunch the next day. John was reticent at first because that would mean leaving Mack in the bunker alone for two days, but he agreed.
In the last scene of the episode, John returned to the bunker to drop a bag of goods for Mack, and he warned him that he won’t be back for a couple of days.
“I’ve wasted enough of my time on you. You’re on your own now, good luck with that,” John said as a farewell, closing the door and burying Mack’s desperate shouts down. Will he survive before someone finds him?
Emmerdale‘s official spoilers for next week haven’t revealed his fate, but they tease that John is about to hit breaking point, fuelled by jealousy over Aaron and Robert’s connection.
