Why Emmerdale’s shock Ray plot is set to get even more dangerous

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale‘s Joe Absolom has opened up about his character Ray Walter’s drug operation, which could get even more dangerous if he lets his “merciless” bosses down. The question is: will his higher-ups be introduced down the line?

Speaking with Digital Spy and other outlets in a roundtable interview, Absolom teased what’s in store for his character.

“Yes, there’s more. Basically, the quality of the weed that the farms are growing, and the fact that I can supply it to an area with Dylan and April so easily – because I think he’s paying him cash – but Ray’s making all the money. So I think the setup for Ray is very good. And where Ray is in that business, we don’t quite know.”

“He does allude to having bosses that are merciless,” noted the actor, “and in that way he gets April and Dylan working off a debt, because when all they’ve got to do is drop off a rucksack but if that goes wrong, then effectively, you have a missing bag of drugs that’s worth a lot of money and that that creates a lot of ripples for everybody, because you can’t just have bags of drugs going missing.”

While viewers are yet to meet the mysterious “bosses” that Ray may be working for, the character seems to be safe for now. The same can’t be said for Dylan Penders, however.

In episodes airing next week, Dylan will find himself confronted by a furious Moira Dingle, following her realisation that he was the burglar that Kyle Winchester discovered at Butler’s Farm.

After Dylan finally stands up to Ray and tells him that he wants to stop dealing next week, the troubled teen will decide to take up Chas Dingle’s offer to help Moira out on the farm, unaware that she already knows what he did.

“Dylan’s worst fears are confirmed when Moira confronts him about the break-in,” our Emmerdale source explains. “She swears it’s payback time, and within seconds Dylan experiences the most horrible déjàvu as he finds himself staring down the prongs of a pitchfork.”
