Bastille Day, the “cheesy but enjoyable” action thriller starring Kelly Reilly, has landed on Netflix in the UK and Ireland.
Released in 2016, the film (which is also known as The Take) features a stacked cast with Reilly, who plays CIA agent Karen Dacre, appearing alongside Idris Elba, Richard Madden, and Charlotte Le Bon.
Co-written and directed by The Woman in Black (2012)’s James Watkins, the movie follows pickpocket Michael Mason (Madden), who, after unknowingly stealing a bag with explosives, is forced to team up with CIA agent Sean Briar (Elba) to prevent a terrorist plot in Paris.
Holding a 49% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Bastille Day has received mixed reviews from critics.
“Bastille Day is a cheesy but enjoyable Paris-set thriller which underlines Idris Elba’s fast-rising credentials as an action hero,” wrote The Independent.

Lauding Elba’s performance, RogerEbert.com commended the actor on his “magnetic physical presence”, but noted that “his fans deserve so much better than a couple of dumb quips and a little ultra-violence”.
The Evening Standard also praised Elba, writing: “What is an action hero? Somebody who’s better at thumping than thinking. And so far as that goes, Idris Elba is your man.”
Empire magazine added: “It rarely makes sense – the script vastly overestimates the power of the hashtag as a weapon of mass destruction – but you’re never bored.”

Reilly is known for her role as Beth Dutton in Taylor Sheridan’s neo-Western drama Yellowstone.
The series, which ran from 2018 to 2024, proved popular, resulting in several spin-offs, including 1883 led by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill and 1923 with Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren.
Reilly will next appear in Under Salt Marsh, an upcoming crime thriller set in the fictional town of Morfa Halen.
Cast as detective turned teacher Jackie Ellis, the series will follow Ellis as she delves into the unsolved case of her missing niece, Nessa, after discovering the body of her former pupil, Cefin, who seemingly drowned.
Bastille Day is now available to stream on Netflix in the UK and Ireland.
